Due to the escalation in cases of Coronavirus we have taken the decision to CLOSE THE SURGERY TO WALK IN PATIENTS (i.e. those that do not have a pre-booked appointment). If you need an appointment, you must phone the surgery or book a GP telephone consultation online.
Please put prescriptions and paperwork that you need to leave with the surgery in the box on the wall to the right of the main entrance. This will be checked regularly by staff.
If you have symptoms that include a high temperature (over 37.8 degrees C) or a new continuous cough, you should self-isolate for 7 days. You MUST NOT attend the surgery. If you are not feeling well or want advice, you should contact 111.nhs.uk or call 111 (999 in an emergency.

Patients registered with us can now see an NHS GP by video using LIVI. Get medical advice, prescriptions and referrals on the same day - even at weekends. The service is provided free on the NHS. Are you protected against Measles?

If you have not had an MMR vaccination or if you have not had a complete course of the MMR vaccination, please contact the surgery to book your MMR vaccination appointment with a Nurse.
Measles is a highly infectious viral illness that can be very unpleasant and sometimes lead to serious complications.
You should contact your GP as soon as possible if you suspect that you or your child may have measles.
It's best to phone before your visit as your GP surgery may need to make arrangements to reduce the risk of spreading the infection to others.
You should also see your GP if you have been in close contact with someone who has measles and haven't:
been fully vaccinated with 2 doses of the MMR vaccine
had the infection before
You should do this even if you don't have any symptoms.

Meningitis B vaccination
This vaccination is given at the same time as all the other childhood vaccinations so no extra appointments are required. May we remind you that the Meningitis B vaccination is associated with higher rates of fever than the other childhood vaccinations and that paracetamol is recommended after vaccination.

Meningitis ACWY vaccination
Teenagers and "fresher" students going to university for the first time are advised to have a vaccination to prevent meningitis and septicaemia, which can be fatal.
Cases of meningitis and blood poisoning (septicaemia) caused by a highly virulent strain of Men W bacteria have been rising in recent years.
Older teenagers and new university students are at higher risk of infection because many of them mix closely with lots of new people, some of whom may unknowingly carry the meningococcal bacteria at the back of their noses and throats.
Anyone who is eligible for the MenACWY vaccine should have it, even if they've previously had the Men C vaccine.
The MenACWY vaccine is highly effective in preventing illness caused by the four meningococcal strains, including the highly virulent Men W strain.

Active Signposting - A Message from Dr Hammond, senior GP/Partner
Holmhurst Medical Centre, in common with all Practices across East Surrey has recently been training our Reception team in Active Signposting. This is an exciting national initiative that will allow our Active Signposters to offer you access to a more appropriate clinician to meet your non-urgent needs, normally quite a bit sooner than if you were to wait to see one of our GP's. As part of this initiative, I have asked our Reception team to request a little information about the reason for your call to the Practice. Please share this with them - it is entirely confidential and will help them to offer you an appointment with the most appropriate member of the Practice team, with the least possible delay. You will of course always have the right to see a GP if you wish, but we are confident that where appropriate to your needs, we will be able to offer you a faster appointment with one of my clinician colleagues.
DrinkCoach Surrey is a new Skype-based coaching service for Surrey residents aged 18 years and over who are drinking at increasing risk or higher risk levels and are seeking support to reduce their alcohol consumption.

We hold a nurse led minor illness clinic on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons, subject to nurse availability. Appointments are bookable on the day.

Online access - restriction of proxy access for parents/guardians
In line with national guidance, we are restricting proxy access to a child's records, issued to parents or guardians, to children aged under 11 only. Once a child reaches their 11th birthday access to medical records will be withdrawn. When the young person attains the age of 16 they can apply for their own login details. If your child is 11 or over and you or they previously had access to their medical records, this has been withdrawn. For all younger children, this will be withdrawn automatically on their 11th birthday.
GP Practices in East Surrey are offering additional GP appointments in the evenings and at the weekend.
Patients registered at Holmhurst Medical Centre can now be booked into evening and weekend appointments with a GP at the primary care hub at The Hawthorns Surgery, Redhill.
The hub provides both routine and urgent appointments. Details regarding hub appointments can be found here.
How to book
Appointments can be booked by calling Holmhurst Medical Centre in the normal way, during normal opening hours. For urgent appointments outside of normal working hours, you can call NHS 111.
Patients attending the hub will be treated by a range of experienced clinicians, ensuring that patients are treated by the most appropriate person, in the right place and at the right time.
These appointments are funded by NHS East Surrey CCG and delivered by Alliance for Better Care Ltd, the local GP Federation.
To obtain test results, please call the surgery (select option 2) on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, between 2pm and 4pm.
If you have registered for online services you can access your results online - please speak to reception if you have any problems with this.

Urgent On The Day Appointments
Holmhurst Medical Centre runs an urgent on the day appointment service every morning from 9 am and every afternoon from 3 pm. This service is for acute, minor illnesses that need to be dealt with on the day that cannot wait for a routine appointment. You should telephone the surgery and will be given an approximate appointment time by which you must arrive. You should however be prepared to wait as patients will be seen based on clinical need and elderly patients and children may be seen first.
If you have an ongoing condition, please pre-book an appointment rather than use this service in order to free up appointments on the day.
To use this urgent on the day service, please call the surgery from 8.30 am to make an appointment.
